Endodontics : Root Canal Treatment

Endodontics is an aspect of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the interior of the tooth (the pulp).

When a deep cavity reaches the pulp of the tooth, it causes significant pain commonly referred to as “toothache” which, if left untreated, leads to infection and abscess. It is in these cases that a root canal treatment is necessary.

This treatment consists of emptying, cleaning and sealing the pulp cavity with a special material to avoid any possibility of future infection.

The tooth is thus devitalized, but the root canal treatment can save it. A devitalized tooth can still play its masticatory role in addition to maintaining the balance and stability of the dentition. The natural tooth also ensures the health of the jawbone.
